I tried a million times to eat the “healthy” version, but my addiction just got worse. I used to buy All-Bran and eat it by the box. I ate until my stomach hurt, and after an hour I went back to another bowl. I figured out my Weight Watchers score to fit in as many shelves as possible. This went on for years. I also ate a special K when they came out with a higher glass version with a lower WW score. I would still be hungry every two or three hours. When the concept of 5 meals a day came around, I was excited to be able to eat cereal multiple times a day.
Does the idea that you need to eat every 2-3 hours to keep your blood sugar stable make sense? No, the real question is why are your blood sugar levels so high and low? The answer lies in what you eat.
Grains are foods that quickly raise and lower your blood sugar, so we should try to eat foods that don’t lower blood sugar first. Whenever blood sugar levels rise, it signals insulin to store fat. This cereal is advertised as a late night snack so it doesn’t derail your healthy diet throughout the day, but most of us don’t. First of all, I have never seen anyone who could eat just one serving of this type of sugary cereal. Second, the blood sugar level will drop, and in the morning you will drag yourself out of bed after eating coffee, sugary pastries, donuts, bread, bagels, because this cup will wake you up in the middle of the night. your day Does this cycle sound familiar?

Yes, I also like sugar, baked goods, and grains, but I don’t like feeling like a junkie myself. I got off the roller coaster two years ago and am so glad to be out of my blood sugar prison. Here are a few reasons why grains won’t make you lean and healthy.
Special K adds two types of sugar – brown rice syrup and regular sugar. Sugar is the third ingredient. And 3/4 of a cup contains 9 grams of sugar, which is about two teaspoons of sugar. Think you can really eat one serving? 12 oz. For your comparison, Coke contains ten teaspoons of sugar. Does it seem like a good idea to start or end the day with a sugary high?
A 3/4 cup serving of Special K contains 25 grams of carbohydrates, which the body quickly breaks down into 5 teaspoons of sugar. Just one teaspoon of sugar can send our blood sugar levels back to pre-diabetic levels. Read about it from Dr. Micheal Ides. But are they healthy grains, you say? Well-known cardiologist, diabetic, and author of “Wheatbelly,” Dr. William Davis has not said. Wheat increases carbohydrate appetite by 400 calories per day. Wheat repeatedly increases insulin and blood sugar levels, which can lead to diabetes. Eating just two slices of bread or 3/4 cup of whole-wheat cereal a day can increase belly fat because it raises blood triglycerides and increases insulin resistance.
Wheat and soy in Special K are the two most common allergenic foods. Add milk and you have three of the most common food sensitivities. An elimination diet can help identify which foods are problematic for each individual. In my experience, gluten is usually the most problematic. Special K contains partially hydrogenated palm oil that is highly processed, bleached and deodorized. Trans fats have been linked to cancer and heart disease in many studies, and even McDonald’s bans them. Trans fats were developed in the early 1900s because of a shortage of butter and a lack of refrigeration. Margarine and Crisco are made from soybean and cottonseed oil waste products. It’s no coincidence that obesity and diabetes have skyrocketed since the creation of these fake fats. Studies have shown that trans fats can cause liver damage and increase belly fat compared to naturally occurring animal fats like butter and lard.
Special K isn’t organic, which means you’re getting a bowl full of pesticides that increase fat-storing hormones. Pesticides have been linked to cognitive decline, cancer and birth defects, and no one knows the long-term risks of a lifetime of pesticide use.
Special K contains soy lecithin, which is a waste product of soy processing. Non-organic soy is genetically modified and has never been proven safe. Soy has harmful health effects, including gut irritation, thyroid disruption, and stimulation of fat-storing hormones.
Kernels have been shown to cause autoimmune disease by inflaming the lining of the gut and releasing undigested food particles into the bloodstream. In rheumatoid arthritis or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, these indigestible food particles mimic our own tissues, so the body attacks itself.
