I found out he lives on Gatorade and beef… no nutrients, just salt and sugar… not good! I won’t go into details but his wife couldn’t cook for him for a few months due to some health issues and we were there for Thanksgiving, so I decided to give him a meal. Like I said in my previous post, there are TONS of different things that food sensitivities or intolerances can cause – check out my post Can I Have Food Intolerance? Read more. It was very clear to me that my FIL had food sensitivities, so I connected him with an integrative health provider who recommended this elimination diet. I recommend that, if you suspect you may have a food allergy, you should see an integrative or functional medicine provider. There are blood tests you can do (like me) but sometimes they are expensive, if so, you can go on a diet. My FIL barely eats anything so the elimination diet is quite easy. I must say, I am not a healthcare provider, please read my disclaimer here, I am helping to supervise your healthcare provider.

Night food: If you have determined that you can eat at night (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers) these are great! Think you may have a food allergy, but not sure what the exact cause is? Are you experiencing digestive issues or skin rashes, but can’t seem to find a solution to make them go away? Well, an elimination diet might be just what you need.
An elimination diet is a short-term eating plan that eliminates certain foods that cause allergies and other digestive reactions – and then reintroduces them one at a time to determine which foods, which products are and are not well-tolerated.
The main reason for the diet is to determine exactly which foods are the culprits of digestive and other health problems when someone is experiencing constant symptoms and seems to be disordered. Symptoms that can cause people to eat include constant diarrhea, bloating, constipation, acne and acne.

It is estimated that 15 million adults in the United States alone have food allergies. About 4% of the adult population and about 8% of children. (1) But these numbers don’t take into account food “intolerances” or food sensitivities that don’t show up in allergy tests, so this means the real number could be much higher. It’s just another reason to experiment with food.
Eight foods account for about 90% of all food allergies: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat/gluten, soy, fish, and shellfish. (2)
Food exclusions include certain foods that are allowed and eliminated, but most will eliminate common allergens, including:
Most elimination diets last about 3-6 weeks. It is believed that antibodies – proteins that your immune system makes when it reacts negatively to food – take about three weeks to wear off. Therefore, this is often the minimum time it takes for someone to completely eliminate their emotional symptoms and notice an improvement in their symptoms.

Although some people may think that they have been eating a healthy diet, if they are still struggling with health problems that they cannot solve, an elimination diet is often the most helpful to determine if the suspected food is the real cause. Even if you’ve chosen to do your food allergy test at your doctor’s office, you may still be missing something because it’s common for allergy tests to be negative for the actual substance. Basic products that are not true allergens can still cause allergies. Negative symptoms.
A food allergy is an overreaction of the immune system to a food protein, but similar effects can occur even if someone has not tested for an allergy. When dietary protein is not well tolerated, it can cause a variety of reactions that can cause symptoms such as rashes, gas, bloating, shortness of breath, and various gastrointestinal (gastrointestinal) symptoms.
Identifying and eliminating allergies and sensitivities is important to overall health. When you are constantly struggling with undefined emotions, your body is constantly releasing an inflammatory response that can be harmful in many ways. Food sensitivities and allergies are associated with an increased chance of developing:
, when a 50-year-old woman with multiple symptoms followed an elimination diet for 9 weeks, she experienced symptom relief and improved nutrient intake. Researchers suggest that eliminating these problematic foods eases the burden on the immune system and allows the body to repair and heal itself.

It is very common to experience persistent digestive problems despite eating an overall healthy diet. Why? Because all it takes is one or two unknown food allergies to make a big impact.
For example, 52 patients with eosinophilic esophagitis – an esophageal disorder mainly caused by food allergies – received an elimination diet as part of a 2014 study published in the journal.
During the study, patients eliminated four major allergenic food groups over a six-month period. : Dairy products, wheat, eggs, and legumes. In 65-85% of patients, only one or two food triggers are the cause of the disorder. Milk was identified as a major allergen in 11 patients (50% of all patients), eggs in 8 patients (36%), wheat in 7 patients (31%) and legumes in 4 patients (18%). (3)
Patients do not know that they have food allergies, so they do not respond to previous treatments until the allergy is identified. In the end they only experience improvement and elimination when specific allergens are eliminated in the long term. Eliminating certain allergenic foods is the most obvious and necessary step in treating food allergies naturally.

When 20 patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) underwent an elimination diet in a 2006 study conducted by the University of Kansas Medical Center, 100% of patients experienced significant improvement in digestive symptoms. (4)
The elimination diet is based on the results of the test to identify the patient’s diet and mold plate. After six months on the elimination diet and still using probiotics, the patients were re-evaluated – and each reported improved bowel movements and control of IBS symptoms. Researchers also found that 100% of patients had increased levels of beneficial bacteria in their gut.
In many cases, leaky gut syndrome is the cause of allergies, autoimmune diseases, and systemic inflammation. Leaky gut occurs when your digestive tract develops small holes that allow certain substances to pass through your bloodstream, causing harm to your system. (5)
Leaky gut is a major cause of autoimmune diseases such as Chron’s and ulcerative colitis. Leaky gut growth can also cause malabsorption of important minerals and nutrients – including zinc, iron and vitamin B12. It is believed that leaky gut is caused by gluten intolerance but can also be caused by other allergies and food sensitivities.
