To join the festivities, we’ve selected our latest documentaries for … If you follow me on Twitter you may know that a few weeks ago I did a three day juice cleanse, following Jason Vale (aka Juice Master) plan. He has many books on the benefits of juicing and techniques as well as a 5 and 7 day plan. I am very skeptical about detoxes and cleanses, as many of them say they are good but actually force you to starve and / or calories. After reading more about Jason Vale’s plan, I decided to give it a try after being late for my birthday and feeling lazy. Here is my account of how I found it.
Update: I leave this review to anyone still interested in doing the Jason Vale detox, but keep in mind that I no longer recommend and will never do a juice cleanse again. I recommend focusing on whole foods and cutting back on processed foods. Why not try The Whole30 instead? Read my experience on Whole30.
I start the day with a cup of hot water and slices of fresh lemon. I had made juices for breakfast, lunch and dinner the night before using my Philips Juicer, so I took my glass jars and went to work. I drank a cup of green tea to wash myself and then drank my breakfast juice. This one has the most ingredients of all but doesn’t taste great, I think that’s because I’m not a huge fan of beets. Unfortunately I had to eat the same juice for lunch.
The recipes are made under one liter of each juice, so that’s a lot and I feel great after drinking half a liter. That feeling didn’t last long though! Before he invited me to eat my lunch juice, my stomach felt like it had collapsed and started eating itself. I went from feeling happy and thinking “I can do this” to fantasizing about anything and everything that I could be. I ran for my lunch juice but didn’t really like the taste. I struggled to swallow and my stomach threatened to turn into a black hole. In a moment of weakness I took a Clif bar and my stomach immediately felt better, but my pride was shattered.

I drank the juice from dinner as an evening snack before I left work, but I put in a lot of lemon. It was very acidic, so I added about 1/2 teaspoon of honey to make it drinkable. Note to yourself, go easy on the lemon! Once I got home, I wasn’t hungry, I was just tired, so after making my juices for two days I decided to skip my evening juice and spend the night early. I mean 7:30 pm early!
I fell asleep right away when I woke up, which has surprised me since I went to sleep early. I can’t remember the last time I slept this long! I have my hot water with lemon again. I really like having something first thing in the morning – I try to get it right, but sometimes I forget it and then I don’t eat or drink until I get to work. Today’s breakfast is a smoothie, which sounds great on paper – pineapple, blueberries, blackberries and milk – but actually tastes incredibly bitter and spicy. Once again I really struggled to drink it, so I put some honey in it.
I don’t know what stomach and lunch time are, but once again I have deep hunger pangs that are a painful reminder to grab lunch juice. I normally eat every 2-3 hours and find the same juice stain, so I don’t know what caused the sudden hunger pangs. Lunch was, to my great delight, the first juice I enjoyed the taste. The recipe called for ginger, but because I hate the taste of ginger, I put in the least amount of it. It looks adorable!
I have my evening juice (with some lemon this time!) As an evening snack, then I go home and prepare my juice for the next day. This week the temperature has dropped to the lowest it has ever been and every night I freeze so after making my juices I go to bed
