Heartburn Vegetarian Diet – I never cared about health. I’m in my 20s young thoughts A near-spiritual awakening in 2016 was brutally interrupted by a diagnosis of chronic acid reflux (GERD).
It was shocking to me then, but not surprising to me now. At this point my staple diet for years has been:
Heartburn Vegetarian Diet
A bubbling cauldron of acidic food in the stomach fueled by years of neglect and self-punishment. I know my eating habits are unhealthy. But many of these behaviors were normalized by the habits of the people around me and never became a problem enough that I couldn’t do anything to change them.

After moving to London in 2016, I started smoking for 3 months (5-10 cigarettes a day) and that seemed to be the last straw to the boiling point of no return.
It’s also worth noting that a close friend of mine recently died in tragic circumstances prior to the original acid reflux, and that he suffered a lot of stress and anxiety during his most active years. Therefore, This reflects to me a self-soothing habit of smoking and eating more comfort foods.
Over the next few years, I would suffer from stomach ulcers; hot flushes I often experience sore throats and discomfort and many of the traditional symptoms of acid reflux.
My understanding is that this is caused by chronic stomach acid backing up into the esophagus (the tube that connects the throat to the stomach). The esophagus is an unsuitable environment for the high acidity of the stomach, which gradually damages the esophagus and larynx over time. Left untreated for years, the cells in the esophagus can adapt to a highly acidic environment, known as Barrett’s esophagus. It can permanently transform into a non-cancerous state.
Can An Alkaline Diet Cure Your Acid Reflux?
Acid reflux is a common phenomenon in Western society—mostly the result of psychological stress and the prevalence of unhealthy eating habits—but the latter can be minor and treatable if you act on it early.
I am not a doctor or a qualified nutritionist. Based on my experience, the following is just what worked for me. I had an appointment with the NHS (UK Public Health System) until it was too late, so I never discussed it with a nutritionist. I spoke to 3 doctors and 1 surgeon and found that nothing helped as I will describe below.
However, Sometimes there may be other causes, such as a hiatus hernia, which may require other treatment, so we recommend that anyone with acid reflux symptoms consult their doctor first.
I am writing this article for anyone else who is in a similar situation as me to describe in practical terms what helps to treat acid reflux. For the word count I mostly focus on the nutritional aspects, but the emotional stress aspects are important to me. You should ask yourself if there is some form of unresolved emotional turmoil in your life; It is always individual to you and your unique circumstances. If you don’t have first-hand experience of this, I also know IBS sufferers who have frequent acid reflux and as a result, I’m wondering if what worked for me might help with this situation as well.
Food Swaps That Can Provide Acid Reflux Relief
As always, The first thing I did after the first symptoms appeared was to see a local doctor. He was only interested in my smoking and drinking habits. Interestingly, none of the doctors or surgeons I’ve talked to about acid reflux have asked about my diet or mental health. Nutrition, at least in recent history; I discovered that it was part of a doctor’s training.
He asked me to quit smoking. He also prescribed omeprazole (stomach acid blocker) to take daily.
I tried drinking, but found it wasn’t strong enough, so I gave him a strong dose of lansoprazole, a stronger acid blocker. We ended up with a daily prescription of lansoprazole, which mostly reversed the symptoms of acid reflux.
When reading the package directions, it clearly states that lansoprazole should not be taken for more than 3 months without long-term side effects. I am 26 years old and the idea of taking a dangerous pill twice a day is not appealing to me. You want to be symptom-free to prevent worsening acid reflux later in life, like Barrett’s.

Honestly, I feel a little overwhelmed by the medical system right now. But at this point, knowing that my diet is bad, my diet is one of the first places I should look at my diet, and it’s clear that my symptoms are frequent. So I stopped taking acid blockers and started looking for more in my diet.
In my experience, lansoprazole is ineffective for me because it only masks symptoms caused by poor diet and lifestyle choices. This is a way to relieve acid reflux symptoms, not cure them. To solve the root of the problem, I have to permanently change the imbalance in my lifestyle.
Thankfully, doctors need to prescribe acid blockers to some people who don’t want to change their lifestyle to prevent worsening of the condition. But at least there needs to be more discussion about mental health and the benefits of healthy eating. Empowering patients to take their health into their own hands. two family doctors; After seeing a surgeon and an EMT (ear, mouth, and throat) doctor, I was only given an appointment with a nutritionist. At this point I was making some progress with my diet and I just didn’t see the point. This saved the public health system for a long time.
When I decided to take matters into my own hands, I kept a food journal. After eating Note what I eat and the severity of the acid reflux I experience. From here, I began a dialogue with my body to learn what foods I needed to support my health. And I was able to start figuring out which foods were causing my symptoms, and I was able to systematically cut out the foods one by one.
Vegetarian Fried Rice
I’ve found that treating acid reflux based on that is like peeling back the layers of an onion. As each layer was removed, I discovered the next subtle layer that caused the symptoms.
To cut short a lengthy trial; At least for me. The defendants were found to be of the following severity levels:
Basically everything I ate. To my initial dismay, My trial and error basically left me with a very basic and simple diet:
But I’ve discovered that it’s not about what you eat, but how it’s prepared. for example, Frying potatoes and vegetables in vegetable oil can cause acid reflux. I experimented with cooking methods such as boiling, campaign, plus boiled, I found the campaign more convenient.
Foods That Help Heartburn
This is the food I ate today and it was the main change I made to reverse my acid reflux. I must point out that it took total discipline over several months to gradually build up to a few years to be symptom-free. You need to keep it that way.
Now I stick to this diet and have no symptoms. After following this diet for a long time, I have now learned that eating food as a once in a while treatment has no symptoms. So you can re-eat your fish and chips… balance. If you eat too much for more than a week or two, the symptoms start again. Basically, It shows me how healthy my body is and how little it is ready for.
Therefore, at least In my experience, A cure is a lifelong commitment to a healthy diet and lifestyle. Fasting It’s not about fad diets or short-term fixes like temporary rehab or acid blocking. Once stopped, symptoms return as soon as you stop eating or blocking the acid.
I’ve done a lot of nutritional research over the past few years and found this to be the closest thing I’ve ever eaten.
