Weight Loss: 1500 Calorie Diet Plan, Here’s How It Can Help You Lose Weight Without Starving

When you first start meal prepping, you may notice that you’re losing weight simply because you’re eating healthier and preparing more for mealtime. I’ve been preparing and drinking it for five years now, and it’s an essential part of my self-care, with some pretty amazing benefits. By eating more organized meals, I’ve improved my overall health and I’ve lost some weight (about 25 lbs) at the same time!

Whenever you stay organized and control your portion sizes, you help yourself eat healthier and more mindfully, which can lead to weight loss.

Counting calories is also a lot easier when you cook your own food and know how to divide recipes into proper serving sizes. All of my recipes have nutritional information and most other food sites provide the same information.

If you know exactly what you’re eating and when, it will definitely help any kind of weight loss plan. Plus, if you prepare your meals, you’re less likely to eat out at lunch or order out after get off work, and you’re less likely to eat lunch because the food is there waiting for you when you’re hungry. Yes!

Well, the answer is that it really depends. It mostly depends on your gender, height, weight, age and activity level – you can read more about calorie counting and weight loss here.

As a rule of thumb, based on the factors I listed above, you should be eating 1200-1700 calories per day to lose weight. If you are very active, you may need to eat a little more to ensure your body is fueled and has enough energy throughout the day. You can calculate how many calories you need to eat each day to maintain your weight and how many calories you need to lose weight so you can see how your body works.

One of the most common misconceptions about losing weight is that you have to starve yourself or restrict your diet. The truth is, restricting your diet can actually mess with your metabolism, causing your body to go into starvation mode and retain all the fat you’re carrying. You will be sad too.

All that said, I really don’t stress calorie counting much. It’s usually sustainable in the long run, and while it’s something I do when I have weight loss goals, I only lasted four months. After that, I had a pretty good estimate of how many calories I was eating each day. For example, you can finally see how much chicken you’re eating and how many calories it contains per serving. Now, I’m more focused on nourishing my body and mind to be strong, healthy and happy.

You also need to count your calories carefully as it can sometimes lead to a bad relationship with your food.

Meal planning is actually pretty easy to do once you get started, and it’s the key to preparing meals in an organized manner. While you don’t necessarily need a diet plan to lose weight, it helps to plan what and when you’ll eat so you have the right structure to stay on track. It will also motivate you to achieve your goals!

When you’re trying to lose weight on a 1,500-calorie-a-day diet, I generally advocate recipes that have between 300 and 500 calories. Again, this is just a rough estimate that applies to many people including me, but certainly not everyone. You can learn more about why 1500-calorie diets are often effective for weight loss here. You should use the above calculations to determine how much weight you want to lose. Context is everything!

Experts Debate: Is Diet As Important As Exercise For Weight Loss?

For example, if you follow a 1,500-calorie-a-day diet, three meals of 400 calories a day are 1,200 calories. You’ll have about 300 calories left over, which can be allocated for snacks (assuming two meals of 150 calories each). I would say you should still eat four or five meals a day, but again, this particular meal plan has worked best for me.

Every time you start a “diet,” you have to be realistic about your current lifestyle. I really encourage lifestyle changes in general to achieve long-term weight loss, especially focusing on consuming whole foods and healthy ingredients. Avoid packaged foods and cook healthy meals at home. This is where meal prep as part of meal planning can help!

With all that said, here’s a very simple outline of a meal plan:

The key is not to restrict yourself or develop an unhealthy obsession with eating and counting calories. You should still be able to eat your favorite foods in moderation and enjoy social gatherings! Always remember starving yourself won’t help you lose weight, so get out there and keep enjoying your life. Losing weight takes time, perseverance, and a healthy mindset.
