I don’t know how to exercise. I can’t even walk long distances and I don’t want to walk because I’m big! I thought I looked funny, so take a taxi. I often think that I am overweight and have no hope for exercise. I remember gaining so much weight and walking a long way from my house to the main road to catch the bus. My friend suggested that before starting any diet, I should check if any food is bad for me. So I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with gluten and dairy intolerance in 2018. To be honest, I changed my diet in the first two months. I do not eat anything that contains gluten and dairy products. I was really strict about my diet and found that I could walk and run more. I feel like I have a lot of energy and I can focus better at work. I told my husband that I was just running on my own, that I couldn’t before and that I knew it was my diet.

I have seen an increase in my energy levels by simply changing my diet. I jog up and down the driveway in the morning. I never had the energy to do this before. I would constantly feel sleepy and lazy and could not get up early. But now even if I stay up late at night, I get up early and I can still focus on my work. I also noticed an improvement in my bowel movements as I used to have really bad constipation. When I was constipated, I would have a painful reaction, which is normal for anyone who is constipated. It was like I had a boil in my stomach. I can’t sit or walk properly so I drink a lot of water and take panadol for pain. Sometimes it would take all week and I would be afraid to go to the bathroom. Most of the time I will limp and tell people I have a boil in my stomach but I am actually constipated. Now that I think about it, when I stopped eating foods containing gluten and dairy products, I also stopped constipation.
But you know, a lot of gluten-free stuff is really expensive, so it’s cheaper for me to eat root crops. At first, I changed my breakfast. On Saturdays we would go and buy a bunch of cassava or a bunch of dalos. My family eats more rice than root crops, so a chunk of cassava or a bunch of dalo for breakfast is enough for me for a week, and sometimes 2 weeks. I was planting roots in the morning and was full until lunch because it was a heavy breakfast. I live in Tappoos, so for lunch I go to the grocery store and buy some salad and cucumbers and stuff.
Why A Gluten Free Diet Isn’t The Answer For Weight Loss
I can see the changes after following this diet for months and it is very encouraging. I’ve also read a few articles about gluten-free eating online. He says that if you follow a gluten-free diet and still eat a lot, you will still gain weight. So I thought okay, I still need to reduce my food portion. I exercise a lot, but I am not eating right.
I dropped from 130 kg to 100 kg. So I thought of going back to eating anything and everything. I did diet and exercise and lost weight. I think I now have what I need, the height and weight I can eat. That was my mentality back then. Then I started eating some bread, drinking milk, and when I started doing that, I started to feel sluggish when I exercised. I’m losing weight and exercising, but I’m not eating the right foods. Before long, I began to feel the symptoms I had before removing gluten and dairy from my diet. I started to feel tired, bloated, lack of energy, migraine, constipation and back pain again. I realized that if I ate anything that had dairy products in it, I would immediately have diarrhea. When I eat anything that contains gluten, I get really bloated, gassy, and constipated. And I feel like I’m having cramps and I can’t sleep! So you can imagine that I ate both.
Some days I will work on an empty stomach and sometimes I will pass out. At one point I fainted quite often. I still remember, I often lost focus at work. We also had some family problems back then, and it was like I couldn’t handle everything. Then suddenly I started to lose my sense of taste and my appetite decreased. I lost more weight but in an unhealthy way. I dropped to 95 kg. Then I got sick.
I had a growth on my neck and was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer towards the end of 2020. At this point my iron levels are very low, so I need to eat iron-rich foods. I eat rourou, loin, chicken liver and all. But to some extent I lost my sense of taste and could not eat at all. I’m vomiting a lot and I’m constantly sleepy and tired because of my low blood count. I’m losing hope and wish I could go back to when I was on a good diet and feeling great. I had to undergo chemotherapy, and in 2021 I had a total of six chemotherapy treatments.

After being diagnosed and throughout my chemotherapy, my doctor – the Oncology consultant at CWM, advised me to avoid sweet foods like cakes and others. So I stopped eating sugar and sweet pastries and went back to my gluten-free and dairy-free diet. Going back to my roots with eggs or chicken for breakfast. I try to be strict with my diet. But this is difficult. My wife will say “watch your diet, don’t eat this” or when she goes to work she will say to the children “mother don’t eat this”. And you know, kids don’t lie, so when he comes back they tell him “he ate some of this”. And then we started arguing. it makes me sad because
