Diet Plans Like Noom
Since its launch in 2008, the Noom Diet, or Noam, has quickly grown to become one of the most sought after diets.
Noom App Review
According to Noom, people who follow a healthy lifestyle can lose 1-2 pounds (0.5-1 kg) per week with their program.
However, you may wonder if Noom is just another fad diet or an effective plan for healthy, sustainable weight loss.
Although I know people who use Noom regularly, I decided to try the platform myself to see if it is a program I would recommend to others.
This article covers everything you need to know about Noom, including what it is, how it works, as well as what I liked and thought would be great.

What Is Noom? (an Honest Review)
I have been a vegetarian for 10 years, but do not follow any particular diet or skip or avoid any other food.
Before trying Noom, I had never used any other weight loss apps. However, I am well aware of counting calories and tracking food intake, which is an important part of Noom.
In the past, I’ve tracked my own intake using other apps, which I sometimes use to determine the nutritional value of specific foods, meals, or meal plans.
However, before trying Noom, I did not have direct experience with many elements of the app, such as daily lessons and group training.
Noom Diet App Expert Review
Getting started with Noom requires a simple quiz on the company’s website or directly in the app.
The quiz collects information about your age, weight, health status and fitness goals. It also asks for details about your current diet, activity levels and any habits or behaviors that may affect your health.
It uses this information to create a customized plan for you and gives you a realistic timeline to achieve your goals.
As I went through the quiz, the app adjusted my estimated timeline to reach my goal weight based on my answers.

Noom requires users to spend just a few minutes a day on the app and offers daily educational articles, tips and activities that you can complete at your own pace.
The app encourages you to log your food intake, exercise and weight and send messages to your health coach and fellow team members for extra support.
You can customize the amount of time you want to spend on Noom lessons each day and choose from specific limits, including:
Like other commercial diet plans and programs, Noom aims to help you lose weight by creating a calorie deficit.
Noom Vs. Weightwatchers: Which Diet Plan Is Better To Help You Lose Weight In 2021?
Noom estimates your daily calorie needs based on your answers to a series of questions about gender, age, height, weight and lifestyle.
Noom uses an algorithm to estimate how many calories you should eat each day based on your goal weight and duration. This is called your calorie budget.
For example, my estimated calorie budget is set at 1,320 calories per day. You can manually adjust your calorie budget or choose a weight loss rate that will increase or decrease your daily calorie allocation.
For safety reasons and to ensure adequate nutrition, a daily calorie budget of 1,200 calories for women or 1,400 calories for men (
Noom Business Model And How The App Makes Money?
Noom promotes food logging and weekly weighing – two self-monitoring behaviors related to weight loss and long-term weight loss maintenance (
Noom also lets you see an analysis of your meals as you log them throughout the day. It shows in which color category foods are classified; how many calories you consumed in each category; and your total calorie intake for the day.
When I tried Noom, the color options were green, yellow and red. The company revamped its range and replaced red with orange.
Noom encourages regular exercise by setting daily walking goals and providing users with a general exercise guide.
Noom Diet Plan Review
Users can log their physical activity on the app, which offers a comprehensive list of exercises to choose from. Since I have an iPhone, Noom automatically linked directly to my Health app to show my total daily steps.
In addition, Noom allows users to track a number of progress measures, including water intake, blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
If you’re sure you’ll be using Noom for more than a few months, the company’s annual membership offers excellent value at $199 per year.
Also, if you are employed by a company that offers a workplace health and wellness program, talk to your company’s human resources department. You can get financial incentives for participating in wellness programs like Noom.
Noom Vs. Weight Watchers
Starting at $59 per month for a recurring plan, however, Noom can cost as much or more than you want.
Meal and workout plans are sent to you in PDF format so you can print them or access the guides on your device.
Although it’s called “personalized,” many reviewers note that the guides don’t feel personalized. However, meal plans can be helpful, especially if you have dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free or vegetarian.
Noom recently partnered with Boston-based company Orig3n, which offers a special DNA test kit exclusively for Noom subscribers.
Noom Diet: Does It Work For Weight Loss?
Although genetic testing is thought to provide motivation to change health behaviors or predict effective solutions for diet or physical activity, these benefits are currently not supported by research (
Noom classifies foods as green, yellow or orange (formerly red) based on their calorie and nutrient density. The app recommends using a certain percentage of foods from each color category – 30% green, 45% yellow and 25% orange.
In addition to a daily calorie budget, users are allocated a specific number of calories from each category.
For example, when registering sweet potatoes, some entries—such as roasted sweet potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, and sweet potato wedges—are classified as green foods, while others—mashed potatoes, baked sweet potatoes, and oven-roasted sweet potatoes—are yellow foods. .
What Is Noom Diet
Here is an example of a 1-week meal plan using some of the foods and recipes that Noom recommended to me.
Keep in mind that this diet plan may not work for everyone, as your daily calorie budget is unique. In addition, since I am a vegetarian, the diet I recommend contains no meat.
I enjoyed the online quiz, which created a personalized plan based on my needs and goals and allowed me to think about habits, behaviors and environmental factors that may be contributing to my eating patterns.
Choosing the time you want to spend on these daily lessons is very useful, especially for those who only want to spend a few minutes a day on the app.
An App Claims Mindfulness, Not Calorie Counting, Can Help Me Lose Weight
Personal trainers were helpful and provided resources, advice and support, which is definitely a plus if you struggle to stay motivated.
In addition, group coaches ask questions to increase engagement and foster a sense of support in the community.
However, I noticed that the app doesn’t group people with similar fitness levels or health goals, which can be discouraging for some.
While recording my meals each day, I felt that the food tracking tool was a bit complicated and confusing. As mentioned above, some foods are classified as green foods under one entry, but yellow or red under others.
Noom Diet Review: What Is It & How Much Does It Cost?
Likewise, I was confused about the criteria for these categories because many of the foods I recorded were considered red or yellow for those that were low in calories and high in fiber or protein.
For example, a fiber crisp has 20 calories and 4 grams of fiber per serving that is classified as a red food. Meanwhile, my favorite spinach tortilla wraps — which provide 50 calories, 11 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein — were yellow.
I also felt that my daily calorie budget was too low, especially compared to what I usually eat in a day while maintaining my weight. However, I appreciated that I could easily adjust as needed to set a more realistic and consistent goal.
After using Noom for a few weeks, I felt that the app made it easier to reduce my calorie intake by categorizing foods as red, yellow or green.
