Things To Do During A Colitis Flare Up

1. Applesauce: Since bowel movements can cause a lot of irritation to your gastrointestinal system, you can use soft and easily digestible foods like applesauce. Also, soft fruits like canned pears and peaches may not be irritating, says Shannon Szeles, RDN, of York, Pennsylvania.

3. Cooked Vegetables: Slow-cooked vegetables like carrots and spinach provide important nutrients like vitamins A and K. Make sure the vegetables are cooked thoroughly until you can mash them with a fork, says Szeles. the fiber breaks.

4. Probiotics: If you are lactose intolerant, yogurt provides protein and probiotics, which are live bacteria that help your digestive system. Be sure to buy yogurt that says live, active culture on the label, says Szeles. Avoid yogurts with a lot of fruit, which are difficult to digest. “Yogurt is good if it is soft, without seeds, and mixed with fruit,” adds Szeles. If you are lactose intolerant, probiotic supplements are also an option.
