Correcting Diabetes with a Low Carbohydrate Diet “Insulin is the worst way to treat diabetes” – Professor Tim Noakes

The Diabetes Code

In the 1920s, people wanted to treat diabetes in teenagers and children. But before people became aware of the low carb diet and its benefits for diabetics, insulin was discovered and became the main treatment for diabetes. The main problem with this was that people weren’t getting better—they weren’t succumbing to the disease; and this is celebrated as an achievement that continues to this day.

You may have heard that carbohydrates are important to give us energy and even help regulate blood sugar and insulin metabolism. But in 1978 Professor Noakes and his colleague tested the theory on a low carbohydrate diet. He found that it was difficult for him to control his insulin level unless he was on a low carb diet. He was actually diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at the age of 28. After switching to a low carb diet he found that he lost the excess weight he had accumulated, got rid of diabetes, and is still completely healthy with no major complications. . Despite this discovery he faced a lot of criticism for advocating a low-carb, high-fat diet and people today are still against this type of diet despite the popularity of the keto diet and other low-carb diets.

According to Professor Noakes, to treat diabetes effectively, patients need to get insulin and lower their blood sugar levels with diet. This can be achieved by reducing the amount of carbohydrates. If you have insulin resistance – where there is more insulin secretion in response to carbohydrates – following a high carb diet can damage your cells.

Insulin Risk and Heart Disease “Smoking is not the biggest cause of heart disease, diabetes is” – Professor Tim Noakes

Can A Keto Diet Help Reverse Type 2 Diabetes?

People with type 2 diabetes have high levels of insulin. Along with that they are given more insulin to lower the glucose. Excess insulin production is associated with vascular disease. This was evident in a study of women who were put on a low-fat, high-carb diet, which made them less likely to develop heart disease later on.

Instead of pumping glucose into cells, insulin produces de novo liver triglycerides in the body. Increased levels of triglyceride are deposited in the liver, which leads to the growth of visceral fat. Visceral fat is the cause of many diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and even mental health issues.
