Cabbage Soup Diet Constipation
After a week of following a diet consisting of little more than homemade cabbage soup, you may feel tired, angry, and thirsty. Since you’ve neglected your recommended daily intake of some important nutrients while on the cabbage soup diet, the smart first priority is to get back to a balanced and complete meal plan.
Pros And Cons Of Cabbage, Cabbage Juice And Cabbage Soup Diet
The cabbage soup diet does not provide a balanced diet. Although MayoClinic.com recommends getting about 55 percent of your daily calories from carbohydrates, 25 percent from fat and 20 percent from protein, cabbage soup provides very little fat. or protein and lack the vitamins and minerals you get from whole grains and low-fat dairy products. That’s why it’s important to get enough of these nutrients immediately after eating.
The cabbage soup diet “must be followed by at least two weeks of a normal, balanced diet to ensure proper nutrition,” says Kathryn Zeratsky, a registered dietitian and nutritionist for MayoClinic.com 1. This means daily serving of fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, lean protein and whole grains. At each meal, ChooseMyPlate.gov recommends achieving a balance, with at least half of your meal being fruits or vegetables, one-quarter of your plate being protein-rich foods, and one-quarter of your plate being grains, preferably whole grains.
The morning after you finish the cabbage soup diet, try a breakfast of whole-wheat toast and an egg-white omelet made with three egg whites, some fresh spinach, and about a tablespoon of grated cheese. For lunch, have a whole-wheat wrap with lean turkey or tofu and mustard, lettuce, and tomatoes. Serve your wrap with coleslaw or a spoonful of low-fat cottage cheese and fresh fruit. For dinner, make a whole-wheat pizza crust and top it with some skim mozzarella, low-sodium tomato sauce, lean ground turkey, and a variety of healthy vegetables.
In the days following the cabbage soup diet, you may be tempted to grab sweets or other high-calorie foods. However, it can slow down the weight loss progress you’ve made on the diet, and rich foods won’t meet your body’s nutritional needs. Instead of giving in to cravings, make a balanced, low-calorie meal plan a high priority. If you have specific nutritional questions or concerns related to the effects of cabbage soup or individual health concerns, talk to your doctor or registered dietitian.

Chickpea And Cabbage Soup

The cabbage soup diet is designed for rapid weight loss and is considered one of the oldest fad diets, dating back to the 1950s. The plan allows unlimited consumption of cabbage soup with small amounts of other foods included in a strict schedule.
In the 1980s, this diet was called the Dolly Parton Diet, the Trans World Airlines Flight Attendant Diet, and the Model Diet. It usually changes every 10 years with a new name.
There is no science to support the effectiveness of the Cabbage Soup Diet, and no famous doctor or medical institution promotes it. However, some elements of the diet can be adapted in a healthier way – such as eating more filling vegetable-based soups – says Laura Zeratsky, a registered dietitian and nutritionist at the Mayo Clinic.

“It comes off as a fad diet because of the fact that it’s not considered sustainable,” says Zeratsky. “Any diet that aims to cause rapid weight loss is a problem.”
The soup is meant to serve as a filling, low-calorie staple, Zeratsky says. Since liquids can lead to satiety, like fiber-filled cabbage, the idea is to reduce hunger and cravings. Between the fiber and the liquid, it often suppresses the appetite, making it easier to stay in a strict caloric deficit. The diet provides less than 1,000 calories per day on days one through three, 1,000 or more on days four and seven, and more than 1,200 calories on days five and six. This is below the recommended range of 1600 to 2400.
Several variations of the soup recipe have been published, but most include cabbage, onion, tomato or tomato juice, celery, and carrots.
As with most weight loss plans, there are both healthy elements and drawbacks. The cabbage soup diet is no exception.
Foods That Cause Bloating And Gut Discomfort
Although cabbage is a part of a healthy diet, the plan requires such a severe calorie deficit that it can lead to weakness and muscle wasting.
“It’s not anything that I would recommend, but there are some points that a person can use within a balanced diet,” Zeratsky said. “Incorporating a low-sodium vegetable soup can be a step in the right direction in terms of feeling full.”

Cabbage soup diet is a fast weight loss diet. Many people claim that following the cabbage soup diet has helped them lose at least ten pounds in seven days [1]. Much of the diet consists of eating cabbage soup, as the name suggests. But other foods are allowed on some days of the diet, mostly low-fat, high-fiber foods such as lean meats, fruits, brown rice, and vegetables [2].
Although there are specific rules about what foods can be eaten each day of the week, you are allowed to eat an unlimited amount of these foods. In general, although the cabbage soup diet is not restrictive in terms of the amount of food you can eat, it is very restrictive in terms of the type of foods you can eat.
While we don’t know when or where the cabbage soup diet originated, we do know that it has been around since the 1950s [2]. There are rumors that the cabbage soup diet was invented by the Saint
