You will write whether you like it or not, they said. And be funny, they said. When I posted about my juice fast on Instagram this week, your questions were in the air. You all wanted to know how I did it, what juices I drank, if I was on a retreat, etc. I wrote this great post for you all that will detail everything you want to know and more.

It was when I first bought my juicer a few years ago. I’ve done a 3 day juice cleanse and done a few more over the years but never made it past 3-4 days.

My travels for the year end around December 22nd and I wanted to start right away but decided to wait until Christmas dinner with my family. So I thought I could help finish off the leftovers from Boxing Day. So part of me wanted to wait until New Year’s Eve, but I realized I was just being a whore. Never leave for tomorrow what can be started today!

So on December 27th I started my ten day juice fast. Before I tell you how it went, let me talk about what a juice fast is and why you might want to do it.

Did you know that up to 30% to 50% of your daily energy can be spent digesting food? This is why your body shuts down after eating a large meal. He uses all his energy to break everything and send things to the right places. Your stomach, intestines, kidneys, liver, brain – everything has to start working. Fasting can help get rid of this old mass, either naturally or with enemas / colonics. This is why juice fasting is often referred to as a juice cleanse, as one of the main benefits is cleansing your digestive tract.

Your Death Row Meals, Or Last Suppers

It goes without saying that a large intake of fruits and vegetables is healthy. Taking a break from eating will also help you reevaluate how much food you need to eat, how often you eat, and exactly what you should and shouldn’t be eating. One thing I’ve learned along the way is that you only need very little experience to make big changes in perspective – this speed was certainly another example of that.

Let’s face it – life is easy. 99% of us have never been in a war, never experienced a plague, never had to go into a coal mine and drill in the dark and wait for the cave to collapse above us just to feed our families We are already 99% stupid so sometimes we need a little challenge , to make sure we don’t change by 130%. Most people who try juice fasting give up, even though it’s not that hard on paper. Challenges are good for us.

Only freshly made juices are allowed – not store-bought or long-life juices. You have to make them yourself with fresh produce and a juicer, or buy them from a place that makes them. Remember what you want

Go for at least 7 days. I actually aimed for 10 days on this particular juice fast and ended up going to 11, or just under 2 weeks. Some people try and aim for 2 weeks; I recommend waiting until you are more experienced with fasting before going this far.

Side note: Need to go green? Organic juice cleansing is of course better than non-organic, but it is not essential. Non-organic produce is still nutritious – just make sure you wash it well and you can peel it too if you want.

To give you an idea of ​​what it is, here is a short diary from my ten day fast:

I bought two liters of fresh juice from a juice bar (I always have it on the go). One is red juice (carrot, beetroot, lime, ginger) and one is green (kale, spinach, celery, apple). Finish both in a few hours and then drink water. I’m hungry at night so I cheat and eat a small slice of papaya.

I bought a liter of sugar (cabbage, spinach, api, apple) at the airport. It’s from the same store I bought it from yesterday (Top Juice, in Australia). I have a four hour flight today so it should be interesting. Day 2 is usually a difficult day; I feel very tired, also because I am still a bit shifted. I fall asleep on the plane, when I wake up there is a snack of cake, yogurt and a sandwich in front of me. Get away from me! The girl next to me looks like a backpacker so I ask her if she wants to. He is so happy (all backpackers love free food). Finally off the plane – right in New Zealand! I made about a quart of my standard green juice (celery, cucumber, lemon, ginger, capsicum, apple) at home with my juicer.

GLORY. Drink three liters of juice today, two green, one red. Massive headache. I spend most of the day in bed. Still no bowel movements.

The headache isn’t as bad as yesterday, but it’s still pretty mild. I get out of bed and hit my bag and am so overwhelmed that I stagger like a drunk for a few seconds and crash into my bookcase. are you dying I make red sugar and my stomach sings when it hits. Yum. I also drink some activated charcoal in the morning to try and encourage bowel movement.

I’m also starting to make vegetable stock (onions, celery, carrots, garlic, then pressure cook for a few hours). Of course you have to strain and discard all the vegetables, you can only drink the broth,  no solids allowed.
