You can eat all of the foods on the list in reasonable amounts while on your Candida diet. If you stick to these Candida foods to eat, you can be sure that you are not feeding Candida overgrowth and making progress in restoring your health.

The foods on this page should make up the majority of your diet. You can take foods from the Maybe list, but eat them in small amounts and prepare them in a way that does not increase their glycemic load.

Remember to make sure your meals are balanced. A good example would be an egg salad with a simple dressing of olive oil, lemon and salt. This meal contains protein from eggs, healthy fats from olive oil, and carbohydrates from certain avocados and other vegetables. It is full of good vitamins and minerals.

The average American diet is over 50% carbs, full of processed foods, and low in nutrients (3). This is one of the reasons gut health is so poor. Follow the Candida Diet and you’ll be eating nutritious, unprocessed foods that are good for your overall health.

Eating non-starchy vegetables robs Candida colonies of the natural sugars that nourish them. Try to eat low-fat vegetables like asparagus, broccoli, eggplant, onions, and zucchini. You should buy your produce fresh and eat it raw, steamed or cooked.

Cut back on starches like potatoes, sweet potatoes, potatoes, corn, winter squash, beets, peas, parsnips, and beans, especially in the first half of your diet. When transitioning to a low-stress diet, it’s often tempting to eat starchy vegetables as a substitute.

The best fruits to eat are those that are high in micronutrients but low in carbohydrates. These include leafy greens like spinach or kale. They also include anything from the cruciferous family, such as broccoli, cauliflower, and cucumber.

What Really Happens To Your Body When You Eat A Banana Every Day

Rutabaga (sometimes called rutabaga) is a versatile and acceptable food. Although you might consider it a starchy vegetable, it is very low in net carbs. It is on our list of antifungal foods and therefore may help normalize your gut (4).

The Jicama is an exception. Like rutabaga, it is low in net carbs and has a low glycemic index. The best thing about jicama is that it’s high in inulin, a prebiotic that can feed the “good bacteria” in your gut and support a healthy gut microbiome.

How you prepare your vegetables is important. For example, the glycemic load of roasted carrots is higher than that of raw carrots. You can add raw or steamed carrots to your diet without worrying about blood sugar. Likewise, the glycemic load is higher than raw glasses.

Generally speaking, it’s best to eat your vegetables raw or steamed. Boiling, grilling, lightly frying and sautéing are good choices, depending on the vegetable.

While we are talking about starchy vegetables. It’s important to note that you don’t have to completely restrict your diet. You should eat primarily from the Candida foods list on this page, but you can be assured that some foods from the Maybe list will also be included. If you restrict your diet too much (i.e. no carbs), you may end up in a state of ketosis which can fuel Candida overgrowth (5).

When choosing vegetables to eat, don’t just look at the amount of carbs. What you should be looking at is something called “net carbs”. This takes into account that not all acids in your diet will have the same effect on blood sugar. Fiber and sugar have little effect on your blood pressure, so they’re ruled out.

To calculate net carbs, simply take the amount of carbs and subtract the total amount of fiber and carbs. You can find high carb carbs if you have a lot of fiber.

Brussels sprouts are a great example. A 100g serving contains 9g of carbohydrates, but 4g of fibre. This means only 5g unit weight.

Resistant Starch: The Un Carb For Optimum Health

Eggs are consumed in small amounts during a Candida diet. Fruit is very high in net carbs and some of the natural sugars found in fruit can feed Candida overgrowth (6).

Typically, Candida albicans does not discriminate between natural and artificial sugars. It can use both to support its colonies and create biofilms to protect itself from your immune system.

There are differences between the three types of sugars commonly found in fruit. Fruit contains large amounts of fructose, glucose, and sucrose, and your body handles them very differently.

Sucrose has been shown to strongly support Candida growth and biofilm formation (7). Glucose has been shown to promote the growth and activity of Candida albicans (8).

Fructose is a little different. Research shows that fructose is metabolized more slowly by Candida than sugars (9). And there is some evidence that fructose can inhibit the growth of Candida albicans (10). In fact, fructose is sometimes recommended as a sweetener for diabetes (11).

There is a problem. Long-term consumption of fructose can lead to insulin resistance, obesity, diabetes, etc. (12, 13). But if you follow a low-salt diet and avoid sweets containing fructose, that’s not a problem.

What does this mean for fruit in the Candida diet? When deciding which fruits to add to your list of foods to eat, you need to consider two things. First, calculate the net carbs by taking the total carbs and subtracting the fiber and sugar. Second, find out how many of these sugars are represented by fructose, glucose, and sucrose. Remember that fructose has a lesser effect on blood sugar than the other two natural sugars.

What Is The Candida Diet?

Some fruits, such as lemons, limes and avocados, have little effect on your blood pressure. You can eat them on the Candida diet. Others, like grapes, bananas, and figs, have high net worth and don’t fit very well.

When you start your Candida diet, be sure to stick to foods that are very low in natural sugars. Other small fruits can be eaten, such as berries or apples.

Grains and pseudo-grains are another part of the Candida diet where some resistance is expected. Some experts believe that gluten-free cereals can be eaten in any quantity. Some people think the net these dishes have is what separates them from the food. The truth lies somewhere in between.

Common grains such as wheat and barley should be eliminated due to their gluten content. Despite the initial controversy, it is well established that gluten can cause health problems for people with celiac disease. In fact, gluten has been shown to induce systemic immune activation and damage the gut lining (14).
