Some doctors cite the Keto Diet as unsafe for anyone with compromised kidney, liver or thyroid health.
The Keto Diet allows for some low-carb drinks, but choose wisely — some big-name sodas, for example, have the potential to put your health at risk.
It is also important to drink enough water on the Keto Diet. When you eat fewer carbohydrates, your body stores less water. You need to drink more water to maintain healthy hydration levels.

Eating high carbs = = high blood glucose (sugar), high insulin, stored fat… and low fat burning, low metabolism and belly fat. Your body’s fuel source is glucose, not fat.
When you eat carbohydrates, your body’s blood glucose will increase and your blood sugar will increase. Your body releases more insulin as a reaction to high blood glucose levels. Insulin is made to get glucose out of your body and into cells. There it is converted into energy. Your body burns glucose to make its energy and then insulin tells the cells to store their energy as carbs or fat (the dreaded unhealthy belly fat).
When you continue to eat a lot of carbohydrates (as many Americans do, eat a lot of processed foods, sugar, alcohol, soda etc.!) insulin is constantly stimulated. This can lead to a health condition called insulin resistance, where cells become resistant to insulin. When this happens, your blood sugar continues to rise and you can become diabetic. Along with diabetes, many other health issues including heart disease and even dementia have been linked to insulin resistance.

To do that, we’ll need to flash back to high school biochemistry, where you probably remember learning pH and acid vs. base (alkalinity). If you don’t remember, or you’d rather not go back to mind, let me give a short refresher course. (I promise it’s painless and short.)
An acronym for “hydrogen power,” researchers measure the total concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution using pH. You can measure any aqueous solution (containing water) to determine its pH.
The pH scale goes from one to 14. Seven is neutral. Anything above seven becomes alkaline (base); anything less than seven is acidic.
Using that scale, human blood is relatively stable at about 7.4, making it alkaline. The ocean has a pH of about 8.1. The optimal pH for a lake is 7.4, about the same as the pH of human eyes and your mucous membrane.
